Sony is expanding the graphical capabilities of the standard PlayStation 5 with its own artificial intelligence technology. With a method called QSSR, the company is bringing AI-powered upscaling to the base model of the current console generation. Previously, this functionality within the PlayStation ecosystem was reserved exclusively for the PlayStation 5 Pro.
AI upscaling was previously exclusive to the PS5 Pro
On the Pro model, Sony utilizes PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).
With QSSR, Sony is now introducing a solution to bring AI upscaling to the standard console as well.
What this means for owners of the standard console
The rollout of QSSR is a notable step for gamers continuing to use the standard edition of the PlayStation 5.
How QSSR performs in detail and which games will support the technology in the future remains to be seen. Owners of the regular console should keep an eye on upcoming software updates.
