The Mesa project released version 26.2.2 of its open-source graphics driver stack on 2 September 2026. The maintenance update bundles roughly 70 changes from around 35 developers and targets every Linux user running AMD, Intel or Qualcomm graphics.
Intel Nova Lake on by default
The headline change is a back-ported patch that enables Intel’s upcoming Nova Lake graphics in the NVL-S, NVL-H, NVL-HX and NVL-U variants by default. The relevant PCI identifiers are now unlocked, while a faulty ID (0xd744) was removed again. As a result, Mesa recognises the integrated graphics of future Intel processors without any manual flags. The update also lands work on the PCO compiler infrastructure and fixes for Qualcomm’s Adreno driver.
Fixes for AMD and games
The Vulkan driver RADV and the OpenGL back-end radeonsi also receive several targeted bug fixes that mainly benefit gamers:
- The broken menu rendering in Persona 3 Reload on RDNA2 cards under Gamescope was repaired.
- NGG culling no longer triggers GPU hangs on Navi 10 hardware.
- radeonsi loads correctly again on older GCN1 cards such as the Radeon Pitcairn.
- RADV now skips indirect draw calls with a draw count of zero, avoiding undefined behaviour.
Who should upgrade
As a pure bug-fix release in the stable 26.2 series, Mesa 26.2.2 is a low-risk update. Many distributions ship the new version through their regular repositories, with rolling releases like Arch Linux and Fedora receiving it promptly. Anyone running one of the affected AMD or Intel GPUs gains more stable drivers straight away.
