Rockstar Games showed extended Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay for the first time on August 27, 2026: roughly 26 minutes of footage debuted exclusively on Netflix before arriving about six hours later on YouTube and the official GTA VI site. According to Rockstar, the footage was captured entirely in-game on a PlayStation 5.
What the Extended Look shows
Titled “An Extended Look,” the presentation returns players to Vice City in the fictional state of Leonida. It centers on the two leads, Jason and Lucia, who are drawn into a wider criminal conspiracy after a simple score goes wrong. Rockstar demonstrated switching between the protagonists, shootouts and police pursuits, and contextual NPC interactions reminiscent of Red Dead Redemption 2. Side activities such as basketball, canoeing and races also featured. Rockstar did not comment on open technical questions such as the console frame rate.
Release date and background
The preview did not change the launch plan: GTA VI is scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That date follows two delays – an original fall 2025 window, then May 26, 2026 – with Rockstar citing the need for additional polish.
Reactions and market fallout
The footage was received largely positively, and industry analysts read the response as a sign of exceptionally strong demand. As a side effect, several outlets reported that the PS5 Pro sold out at major retailers after the reveal and traded at sharply inflated prices on the secondary market – observations based on individual reports rather than official sales figures.
