At IFA 2026 in Berlin, Shelly is making Matter its headline theme: a free firmware update will, according to the company, turn compatible Wall Displays into both a Matter controller and a Matter device at the same time. Alongside it, the maker is showing a revised radiator thermostat and two new door and window sensors.
Wall Display turns into a Matter bridge
At the heart of the announcement is an over-the-air update carrying firmware 2.8.0. Shelly says it will turn compatible Wall Displays into „both Matter controllers and Matter devices“. That lets Matter products from other brands – including lights, blinds and shades, thermostats, fans, plugs and sensors – be added and controlled directly from the display without a separate hub.
In the other direction, the Wall Display itself becomes a Matter device, making it addressable, according to the company, from Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant. The update is earmarked for the X1i, X2i, XL, U1, S1, S2 and XT models; earlier generations are said to receive it with limited functionality.
A new thermostat and two sensors
On the hardware side, Shelly is showing the revised Shelly BLU TRV, a radiator thermostat the company says runs more quietly and can last up to two years on a single charge. It is joined by two new door and window contacts:
- Shelly BLU Door Window Mini ZB – a compact contact for narrow frames
- Shelly BLU Door Window Outdoor ZB – IP55-rated for outdoor use
Shelly says the Matter update for the Wall Displays is already available. The BLU TRV and the two new sensors were announced as „coming soon“; the company did not initially name prices or an on-sale date.
