Home Assistant 2026.8: Simpler, New Zigbee Manager

The open-source smart home hub Home Assistant has been released in version 2026.8. This time the focus is on simplicity – Home Assistant should be usable even without technical know-how.

Simpler for newcomers

The stated goal of this version: lower the barrier to entry. Many features that were previously only reachable via detours are now more directly accessible – from automation to device management.

What is new

  • A new update-all button handles pending updates in bulk.
  • The ZHA Zigbee device management has been fundamentally overhauled.
  • The former logbook is redesigned as a clear activity timeline, organised chronologically by day.
  • Dedicated control panels for infrared and radio-frequency devices (IR/RF) have been added.
  • The ESPHome Starter Kit is available as the first official hardware product, alongside ten new community integrations.
