On 5 August 2026, Proxmox Server Solutions announced the first officially supported ARM64 edition of its popular virtualization platform. Proxmox VE 9.2 for arm64 shares the same codebase, package repositories and release cycle as the established x86-64 edition.
This means ARM is no longer a workaround but an equal-tier platform: according to the announcement, there is full feature parity across KVM (virtual machines), LXC (containers), ZFS and Ceph. The ARM64 variant is built on Debian 13.5 “Trixie” with Linux kernel 7.0.
What it means for homelabs and servers
ARM processors are known above all for their high energy efficiency. An officially supported Proxmox edition opens up new use cases – from power-saving homelab servers and ARM-based cloud instances to powerful ARM server platforms. Until now, Proxmox could only be run on ARM through unofficial means, with no guarantee of updates or stability.
The decisive point is that Proxmox folds the ARM64 edition into the same release lifecycle as the x86 version: security updates and new features will now ship for both architectures in parallel. Anyone planning to switch should, as always, create backups beforehand.
