Apple has seeded the first developer beta of iOS 27.2. Alongside updates like the overhauled Health app and Siri expansions, the release brings a convenient everyday feature: Apple Gift Cards can soon be scanned contactlessly via NFC (Near Field Communication) and credited directly to your account.
Contactless Redemption via NFC Chip
With iOS 27.2, Apple significantly streamlines the process: users simply hold their iPhone against the card. The built-in NFC chip reads the data wirelessly, prompting a dialog window to appear on the screen. From this prompt, the balance can be instantly added to the linked Apple account.
Release Expected in Late October
Apple’s move directly to iOS 27.2 for this test cycle is reportedly tied to internal version planning: the intermediary iOS 27.1 release is presumably reserved for an upcoming device dubbed the iPhone Duo to avoid revealing product details ahead of time.
Based on Apple’s typical release schedules, the final rollout of iOS 27.2 for all compatible iPhones is expected in late October or early November at the earliest. There is currently no action required for standard users; installing early developer betas on primary devices is generally discouraged due to potential bugs and system instability.
