Streaming service Disney+ is completely dropping support for Apple’s AirPlay casting standard across all subscriber tiers. As Disney officially confirmed, the feature is no longer available on any plan. There will be no price reductions following this limitation; monthly and annual subscription costs remain at their current levels.
Wireless Streaming via AirPlay Discontinued
With the removal of the feature from the Disney+ app, AirPlay streaming is blocked across all subscription tiers. This affects ad-supported plans as well as standard and premium tiers alike.
The move follows previous restrictions at the streaming provider. Only recently did it emerge that Disney+ was blocking AirPlay in Germany following a patent ruling. With the current official confirmation, it is clear that the removal covers all tiers of the streaming service, leaving customers paying full subscription prices for a reduced set of features.
Practical Impact
For affected customers who regularly streamed Disney+ via AirPlay, usability takes a noticeable hit. Content from the service can no longer be cast to other devices such as TVs using this method.
