The media center platform Plex is rolling out a major design update for Apple TV. Following a testing phase via Apple’s beta platform TestFlight and separate preview releases, the modernized interface is now making its way to the regular release for tvOS.
Redesigned Navigation with Collapsible Sidebar
At the heart of the update is a fundamentally revamped navigation experience. The sidebar has been completely re-architected and is now collapsible, keeping the screen cleaner and less cluttered. The developers’ goal is to make content accessible more quickly and ensure smoother navigation using the remote.
Users also gain greater control over their home screen:
- Direct access to favorites: Pinned media libraries are now treated as top-level sources, providing direct, seamless access.
- More flexible Live TV and DVR management: Live TV and digital video recording (DVR) sources can now be designated as favorites and reordered just like regular media libraries.
- Fewer clicks: Within an individual media source, users can quickly jump between different sub-pages without having to navigate back through the main menu every time.
Bug Fixes and Improved Remote Navigation
Beyond the visual redesign, the update includes under-the-hood enhancements: overall performance has been optimized, additional bugs have been fixed, and remote focus navigation issues have been resolved.
Putting the New Features to Use
With the stable rollout now underway, the redesigned interface is ready on tvOS. Once launched with the new UI, users can open the sidebar to rearrange their preferred libraries and TV sources to their liking.
