Samsung began rolling out Hub firmware 0.62.7 for SmartThings and Aeotec hubs on 8 September 2026. The update finally enables local control while the hub is offline – and makes Thread networks more flexible.
What the update delivers
The staged rollout runs through 16 September 2026 and reaches the v2 (2015) and v3 (2018) hubs, the Aeotec Smart Home Hub, the Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2 and the ThingsOne Smart Home Hub. The headline change: the SmartThings app can now talk directly to the hub whenever both sit on the same local network – even when the hub has no cloud connection. For automations during an internet outage, that is a tangible win.
Thread and Matter in focus
The release also lets hubs with Zigbee and Thread-based Matter devices join a different Thread network, though some Zigbee devices may need to be re-added. It adds enhanced Thread diagnostics for rare network conditions, automatic firmware updates for SiHAS power meters (PMM-300Z2 and PMM-300Z3), and SmartThings Find support for the Aeotec Hub 2 and ThingsOne. Edge drivers, including those for IKEA BILRESA controls and window coverings, were refreshed too.
Why it matters
Cloud-free local control has long been a sore spot for smart-home platforms. With 0.62.7, SmartThings edges closer to resilient automations that keep running even when servers stumble. If you run an older hub, check whether the update has arrived yet – distribution happens in waves.
