The lightweight Debian derivative DietPi has reached version 10.7, equipping single-board computers and homelab servers with a new networking utility and, for the first time, dedicated container and VM images.
The new dietpi-network utility
The centrepiece of the release is the dietpi-network tool, which lets users configure multiple Ethernet and Wi-Fi interfaces independently. It no longer relies on fixed names such as eth0 or wlan0; instead it detects interfaces by type and supports both systemd’s predictable naming scheme and virtual interfaces. One adapter can therefore provide internet access through a gateway while a second serves the local network on a static IP only.
Containers and virtual machines
For the first time the project ships images for containers with a virtual network, arriving with the network stack and SSH server pre-installed. Alongside them come ARMv8 VM images for common hypervisors. Version 10.7 also adds official support for the LubanCat 4 board, built around Rockchip’s RK3588S SoC.
New packages and fixes
The software catalogue now offers the home inventory system HomeBox and the video and automation platform Scrypted. The update also fixes issues affecting Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi 5/5B, Ampache, WiringPi and Roon Bridge.
