The modern, Flatpak-focused app store Bazaar has officially joined GNOME Circle. The project positions itself as a successor to GNOME Software, targeting GNOME 52 – a potential turning point in how apps are discovered and installed on GNOME.
What Bazaar is
Bazaar is a new app store for the GNOME desktop that focuses on discovering and installing applications from Flatpak sources – above all Flathub. A particular emphasis is on supporting the developers behind the apps. Distributions can also set up a “curated” section to highlight recommended applications.
Admission to GNOME Circle
GNOME Circle is an initiative that brings independently developed apps and libraries into the GNOME ecosystem, provided they follow its platform and design principles – including access to project infrastructure and promotion. Bazaar’s admission is therefore a clear signal about the future direction.
That the technology is mature is borne out in practice: in cutting-edge distributions, Bazaar is already replacing GNOME Software – the Universal Blue variant Bluefin uses it as its default app store. For users, this promises more modern, Flathub-oriented software management.
