On 9 September 2026 the KDE community shipped KDE Frameworks 6.30.0 – the latest in its series of planned monthly releases that deliver improvements to developers at a fast and predictable pace. The roughly 70 libraries form the shared foundation of the Plasma desktop and countless Qt applications, so even a maintenance release has a tangible everyday impact.
What changes under the hood
The biggest chunk comes from the KIO file input/output library: it can now delete entire directory trees natively, reports the progress of HTTP uploads more reliably and handles file permissions more carefully when copying. The Baloo search indexer now excludes .snapshots folders and filters content extraction more precisely, avoiding needless load on Btrfs systems. KImageFormats also fixes HEIF image decoding issues and hardens handling of the JP2 format.
Editor, calendar and wallet
KTextEditor’s Vi mode gains filename registers and cleaner tab handling. KCalendarCore adds translated enum names for calendar properties and clearer recurrence descriptions, while Kirigami refines its form layouts and improves touchscreen behaviour. KWallet, in turn, gets leaner: deprecated features and session management have been removed.
Requirements and context
Frameworks 6.30.0 requires at least Qt 6.9.0 as its base. Because KDE maintains the collection on a fixed monthly cadence, the changes will automatically reach rolling-release distributions and the next Plasma update over the coming weeks – so most end users simply need to wait for their system update.
