AVM has started selling its new cable flagship: the FRITZ!Box 6690 Pro has been on shelves since early September 2026, pairing an integrated DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem with tri-band Wi-Fi 7 for the first time.
Tri-band Wi-Fi 7 for cable connections
The 6690 Pro transmits on the 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz bands simultaneously and reaches a theoretical combined rate of up to 12.2 Gbit/s. It now supports Multi-Link Operation (MLO): compatible clients can bundle several frequency bands, delivering steadier connections and lower latency – handy in busy home networks.
Ports, DECT and smart home
The back panel carries one 2.5-Gigabit LAN port and three Gigabit ports, plus two USB 3.0 sockets. Acting as a DECT base, the box handles up to six cordless phones and doubles as a smart-home hub via Zigbee and DECT ULE. An integrated TV function can stream unencrypted cable channels across the home network.
Price and availability
AVM lists a suggested retail price of 429 euros. At launch the FRITZ!Box 6690 Pro is initially available at Media Markt and Saturn, alongside a rental option through Vodafone. For cable customers it is the first FRITZ! model to combine Wi-Fi 7 and DOCSIS 3.1 in a single unit.
