At IFA Berlin 2026 (September 4–8, Hall 1.2), Aqara is presenting its vision of „space-centric“ smart-home control. At its heart sits the Spatial Multi-Sensor FP400 – an mmWave radar sensor said to detect multiple people along with their body posture.
mmWave instead of PIR: what the FP400 does
The FP400 uses millimeter-wave radar and, according to Aqara, can locate up to ten people at once – distinguishing standing, sitting and lying down, plus fall detection. Coverage reaches up to 10 × 8 meters, and a built-in light sensor is included. Unlike classic PIR detectors, which only register motion, mmWave radar also picks up stationary presence: the light stays on while you sit still on the sofa. Full positioning features run via an Aqara hub (Zigbee), the company says; over Matter and Thread, presence and light sensing remain available.
Hubs as the Matter hub
As the control center Aqara positions the Edge Hub M300, which bundles Zigbee, Thread, Wi-Fi and Ethernet and acts as a Matter controller and Thread border router between Aqara devices and ecosystems such as Apple Home, Alexa and Google Home. Matter and Thread are the key here: they are meant to ensure cross-vendor compatibility – even if, per Aqara, the finest spatial intelligence still remains tied to the company’s own platform.
Prices and availability
Concrete prices and launch dates remained open at IFA; the FP400 is already listed in parts of Aqara’s EU store, but no official RRP has been named. Aqara first showed the sensor at CES 2026 – in Berlin it now takes the spotlight.
