Samsung has officially announced its first open-design headphones with the Galaxy Buds On. The wireless clip-on earbuds will launch first in South Korea on October 27, 2026, and are expected to arrive in other international markets shortly thereafter.
After early leaks in the Samsung Wearable app surfaced ahead of the announcement, the first official technical details are now available. The Galaxy Buds On are clip-on earbuds that attach to the side of the ear. The speaker driver is positioned toward the ear canal without sealing it off. As a result, ambient noise remains continuously audible during music playback.
Snapdragon Chip and Gesture Controls
Inside the Galaxy Buds On runs a Snapdragon chip. Samsung rates the battery life at up to 9.5 hours on a single charge. The included charging case substantially matches the form factor of the Galaxy Buds 4.

Controls are handled via light taps on the rear half of the earbud casing. In addition, the Buds feature head gesture recognition: users can, for example, accept and end phone calls or mute alarm sounds with specific head movements.
Reduced Sound Leakage and AI Features
Samsung equips the open-ear buds with automatic volume adjustment. Built-in technology is also designed to specifically minimize sound leakage to the outside, preventing bystanders from overhearing audio playback as much as possible. For voice calls, the company promises improved microphone and filtering performance. On the software side, the earbuds support Google’s Gemini Live voice assistant.
Market Context and Availability
With this open-ear design, Samsung is responding to competing products like the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds. Open-ear models are particularly suited for users who want to remain aware of their surroundings while working out outdoors or in the office, and who prefer to avoid the pressure of traditional silicone in-ear tips in the ear canal.
