The Aoostar WTR Pro is a compact NAS barebone with an AMD Ryzen 7, four drive bays and up to 88 TB of capacity. For home-server and homelab fans who want to build a powerful yet frugal system themselves, it is an affordable alternative to off-the-shelf NAS units.
Ryzen 7 at the core
The WTR Pro is powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 5825U with eight cores, 16 threads and up to 4.5 GHz, plus integrated Radeon graphics. That gives the system plenty of headroom for several virtual machines, containers, media services or a backup server – considerably more compute than classic NAS devices in this price range.
Four bays, up to 88 TB
For storage, Aoostar focuses on flexibility:
- Four SATA bays for 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch drives (up to 22 TB each, up to 88 TB combined),
- two M.2 NVMe slots for fast cache or extra SSD capacity,
- RAM (up to 64 GB DDR4-3200) and drives are added by the user – the unit ships as a barebone.
Ports and efficiency
The rear panel offers, among other things, two 2.5-gigabit LAN ports, plus USB 3.0 and 2.0, HDMI, DisplayPort and USB-C; Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 are on board as well. The WTR Pro is also economical: it draws around 11 watts at idle and 64 to 66 watts under load with four hard drives. Noise sits at roughly 37 to 43 decibels, and the unit is a compact 228 × 185 × 150 mm.
Price and availability
As a barebone, the Aoostar WTR Pro sells for roughly 373 to 579 euros depending on configuration, mainly via AliExpress; configured versions with RAM and SSD are also available on Amazon. For builders after a power-efficient x86 home server with lots of storage and solid CPU performance, it is an interesting alternative to finished NAS systems from Synology or QNAP.
