Nvidia’s professional graphics card RTX PRO 6000 “Blackwell” with 96 GB of memory now costs around 16,000 US dollars – nearly double its launch price. The main drivers are sharply higher memory prices and the enormous demand from the AI boom.
Three price increases in just over a year
The price trajectory is steep: at launch in March 2025 the card was around 8,565 dollars, rose to 13,250 dollars in June, and now reaches the 16,000-dollar mark in August. That is about 87 percent above the original list price – the latest increase alone amounts to roughly 21 percent within two months.
GDDR7 shortage as the driver
The main cause is the shortage and rising cost of GDDR7 memory, further fuelled by the AI surge. The card itself offers 24,064 CUDA cores and 96 GB of GDDR7 and is aimed at AI development, content creation and simulation.
For companies that depend on such professional GPUs, the price spiral is increasingly becoming a problem. It is a clear symptom of the current AI boom, which is driving up hardware costs across the industry.
