Amazon has announced a new generation of the Fire TV Stick 4K. According to the manufacturer, the refreshed streaming stick promises faster performance than comparably priced rival products, introduces a redesigned port, and comes with a revamped remote.
Speed and a New Port
In terms of operating speed, Amazon touts an edge over similarly priced rival streaming devices. However, the company leaves it open whether the new stick actually outperforms previous Fire TV models. If an older Fire TV Stick is running slow or stuttering during menu navigation, a noticeable performance leap over its direct predecessors is by no means guaranteed. In addition to hardware adjustments, Amazon has also equipped the device with a new physical port, altering how the hardware connects compared to earlier models.
Redesigned Buttons on the Remote
Amazon is also tweaking the accessories. The bundled remote has been redesigned to offer a more intuitive navigation experience across menus and apps. To achieve this, the company specifically altered the buttons: they now feature more distinct shapes or recessed profiles to noticeably improve everyday usability.
Pricing and Consumer Perspective
From a pricing perspective, the new model paints a mixed picture: the regular price of the new Fire TV Stick 4K is 74.99 euros, making it more expensive than the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus was at launch (69.99 euros). Those who already own a 4K-capable streaming device and are satisfied with it do not necessarily need to upgrade immediately. If issues arise with an existing device, troubleshooting known Fire TV Stick problems is often enough to stabilize day-to-day operation without buying new hardware.
