Xiaomi has given a first look at the 18 Fold at IFA 2026 in Berlin – a wide-opening foldable that squares up against Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 and carries the company’s first in-house flagship chip.
An in-house chip and an unusual format
According to Xiaomi, the 18 Fold is the first phone to run its own XRing O3, a processor built on a 3-nanometer process. The inner display measures 7.58 inches and adopts a squarer 2:1 aspect ratio meant to feel like a sheet of paper, while a 5.38-inch panel sits on the cover. It is paired with fast LPDDR6 memory that Android Authority says reaches transfer speeds up to 12,800Mbps.
Camera, battery and hardware
On cameras, reports point to a 200-megapixel main sensor and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto, tuned with Leica. As the first wide foldable to do so, the 18 Fold is said to pack a 6,000mAh battery with 67W wired and 50W wireless charging. Add an IP68 rating and Android 17 with HyperOS. These figures pre-date the official China reveal and should be treated with caution.
Will the 18 Fold reach Europe?
Here caution is warranted: so far Xiaomi has confirmed only a China launch on September 7. There is no official announcement of availability in Germany or Europe – much like the predecessor Mix Fold 4, which stayed China-exclusive. Pricing, too, is only estimated: leakers expect around 12,000 yuan (roughly €1,650), which would make the 18 Fold Xiaomi’s most expensive phone yet. For now, anyone in Europe hoping for a folding Xiaomi will have to keep waiting.
