Omarchy, the Arch-based distribution created by Rails founder David Heinemeier Hansson (DHH), has fundamentally rebuilt its desktop with version 4.0 “Quattro.” At the same time, the newly founded Omacom Foundation secures ten million dollars for the project.
A unified Quickshell interface
Omarchy 4.0 was released on August 14, 2026, replacing several Wayland tools such as Waybar, Walker, Mako, SwayOSD, hyprlock and polkit-gnome with a unified desktop shell based on Quickshell. The Hyprland configuration now relies on Lua scripting, and instead of a Git checkout it uses regular Arch packages. Added to this are dual-boot support, an ISO size below 6 GB, roughly 30 percent faster installation, and OEM and factory-reset features.
Security corrections in 4.0.1
Version 4.0.1 from August 25, 2026 revised the permissions of the AI agents: Claude Code now runs in automatic review mode, Codex with --approve-for-me and the workspace sandbox re-enabled. It also closed vulnerabilities in themes, Docker and USB.
Ten million dollars for the Omacom Foundation
On August 21, 2026, the Omacom Foundation launched with an initial eight million dollars from eight “Founding Patrons,” including Tobi Lütke, Patrick Collison, Michael Dell, Jack Dorsey, Matthew Prince, Brendan Iribe, Jason Fried and DHH himself. By August 24, contributions from Drew Houston and Peter Steinberger had grown the sum to ten million dollars. The money goes toward infrastructure, trademarks and open-source dependencies.
