OpenAI said it is winding down the contract at the latest possible date – 12 November 2026 – to keep access open for developers as long as it can. What it means for Cursor users
The impact on users is likely to be limited. Cursor CEO Michael Truell said on X that OpenAI models account for only about five percent of the tool’s traffic and that his team is in talks with OpenAI to find a resolution. Cursor also relies heavily on Anthropic’s Claude models – the AI provider said it would continue to expand compute capacity for Claude within Cursor.
