Google August 2026 Spam Update Rolled Out – Global and All Languages

Google has finished rolling out its “August 2026 Spam Update.” The update ran from 18 to 21 August, applies worldwide and to all languages. Anyone who noticed ranking fluctuations during that window should now take a closer look at Google Search Console.

The timeline

The rollout began on 18 August 2026 and was complete on 21 August – a duration of roughly two days and 16 hours. It is already the third spam update Google has rolled out this year.

What is affected

The update applies globally and across all languages. Google did not announce any new spam policies with this rollout – it enforces the existing policies more strictly. So the sites most affected are those violating current spam rules.

What site owners should do now

With the rollout complete, Search Console data from 22 August onward gives a clean baseline for comparison; the weeks before 18 August serve as the reference. Sites seeing declines should review their compliance with the existing spam policies.
