Chinese EV giant BYD has built 10,000 of its megawatt “Flash Charging” stations in under six months. It aims to reach 20,000 by the end of 2026 – partly in cooperation with oil group Sinopec.
Charging almost as fast as refueling
The new stations deliver up to 1,500 kW through a single connector. That charges a compatible vehicle from 10 to 70 percent in five minutes and from 10 to 97 percent in nine minutes. Since the strategy launched in March, the network has grown fast: about 5,000 stations in early April, over 7,000 by late June, now covering 325 cities.
Partnership and expansion
For the rapid rollout, BYD is using Sinopec’s dense service-station network (agreement signed on 3 June). On top of the 20,000 stations in China, the company plans 6,000 sites abroad – starting in Europe from mid-2026. With speeds approaching conventional refueling, BYD is putting established charging providers under pressure.
