Midea’s portable split air conditioner is getting company: at IFA 2026 in Berlin, Dutch manufacturer Eurom showed the „Slide & Split“ – a more compact unit that takes direct aim at the popular Midea PortaSplit.
What sets the Eurom Slide & Split apart
Like the PortaSplit, the Slide & Split is a portable split system: the noisy compressor sits in an outdoor unit that can be placed on a balcony or on the window sill, while the indoor unit handles the cooling. According to Eurom, the key difference is the connecting hose between the two units – it is noticeably slimmer, so the window only has to stay open a crack, letting less warm outside air flow back in. Overall the device is built slimmer than the established model.
Where the Midea PortaSplit stays ahead
That compact design comes at a cost in performance: the Slide & Split delivers around 7,000 BTU, whereas the PortaSplit offers a much higher 12,000 BTU for larger rooms. The Eurom also lacks a heating function that the Midea provides. For smaller rooms, where the slim hose plays to its strengths, the Slide & Split could still become an interesting alternative. Availability and price
For now, Eurom is keeping the details to itself: the show offered no information on efficiency class, noise level, refrigerant or price. According to the manufacturer, the Slide & Split is due to reach the market „later this year“. Until then, the Midea PortaSplit remains the reference point in the portable split segment.
