The open-source project Immich released version 3.2.0 of its self-hosted photo and video management platform on September 10, 2026. Building on the 3.0 series from earlier this year, the update focuses primarily on search and first-time setup. Many self-hosters view Immich as a privacy-friendly alternative to Google Photos.
New search UI and Search API v2
The centerpiece of 3.2 is a revamped search interface in the web client, backed by a new Search API v2. It adds album searches for the first time and lets users combine filters with AND/OR operations. A reworked Memories page for revisiting past moments and the ability to rename tags directly in the UI round out the changes.
Compose builder lowers the barrier to entry
For newcomers, Immich introduces a Docker Compose builder that assembles custom compose files more conveniently, simplifying an initial setup that has often been error-prone. Further additions include automation workflows with tag-based triggers as well as a map view that opens a timeline for the assets currently in the viewport.
Breaking change for face recognition
Anyone wanting the new cross-user people recognition in shared albums must reset facial recognition for everyone involved. According to the project, the names and birth dates of already-recognized people are lost in the process, so a full backup before updating is strongly recommended before administrators enable the feature.
