Canonical has released Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS – the first point release in the “Resolute Raccoon” series. It bundles four months of bug and security updates and, at the same time, opens the upgrade path for users of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
Collected fixes, a nicer install
26.04.1 contains all bug and security fixes rolled out as Stable Release Updates (SRUs) since the April release. The benefit shows especially on fresh installs: you start right away at a current state instead of pulling hundreds of updates. This first point release does not yet include a new HWE stack with a fresher kernel – that comes with 26.04.2 after the interim 26.10 release.
The upgrade from 24.04 begins
Canonical traditionally only offers LTS users new major versions from the first point release onward. So anyone on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS can now upgrade to 26.04.1 LTS. Existing 26.04 users need do nothing – they receive the fixes continuously via the update manager anyway.
