Twitch has introduced a setting that lets streamers object to their content being used to train Amazon’s generative AI. The catch: the option was enabled for every account from the start – so every creator was included by default before there was any way to opt out at all.
There was no advance notice: no email and no pop-up. Only with the new toggle on 12 August 2026 did the practice become publicly visible.
What is covered – and where to opt out
The setting is called “Training for Generative AI” and can be found in account settings under “Security and Privacy”. According to Twitch, it covers a channel’s streams, VODs and clips as well as stream chats and the images and text on the channel page. Anyone who does not want this has to actively switch the toggle off.
Criticism of the opt-out approach
Asked why the feature relies on opting out rather than opting in, Twitch’s chief product officer said, in essence: “If this was opt-in, nobody would opt in.” He also could not confirm which content Amazon had already used for training before the toggle existed. Privacy advocates and creators have criticised the approach accordingly.
