Thunderbird 154: System Tray and Microsoft Graph

Mozilla has released version 154 of its open-source email client Thunderbird. The new features mainly improve desktop integration and connectivity with Microsoft 365.

What’s new

  • Optional system tray: with the new mode enabled, Thunderbird stays active in the system tray after the last window is closed, instead of exiting completely.
  • Microsoft Graph: connectivity to Microsoft 365 via Microsoft Graph is now enabled – a further step after the native Exchange support in version 153.
  • Better search: a new setting opens search results in list view by default.

In addition, Thunderbird 154 improves handling of attached emails (message/rfc822): the context menu now offers a “Copy To” folder option, and such messages can be dragged directly into the folder tree. The update is especially interesting for anyone with Microsoft 365 accounts.
