Apple has released beta version 7.0 of Apple Music for Android, bringing the Liquid Glass design introduced on its own platforms a year ago to Google’s mobile operating system. The update is currently in a testing phase, which, based on past experience, is expected to take several weeks.
Floating Navigation and Transparent Mini-Player
The most noticeable change affects the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. It is no longer statically anchored to the edge of the display, but instead floats freely above content. A subtle transparency keeps underlying areas visible, though solid-colored sections remain the most legible. The mini-player has been overhauled in the same style and is now visually decoupled from the main navigation.
Unlike the iOS version, the bar on Android stays at full size even when scrolling, rather than collapsing into a more compact shape. In addition, the app makes better use of screen real estate: content now extends edge-to-edge beneath Android’s status bar and system navigation.
Redesigned Library and New Artist Views
The menu structure and detail views have also been updated to match the new design language. In headers, the respective page title and menu will now sit on the same line. The three-dot icon loses its red coloring and is instead displayed neutrally inside a circular frame. In the library, this leads to an adjustment: options for editing categories and pinned items have moved directly into this menu.
Artist profiles also take cues from their iOS counterpart. The background dynamically adapts to the header image. Furthermore, there is a more prominent play button, a share button in the top right corner, and the artist/band biography is no longer relegated all the way to the bottom of the page. The app’s settings have been organized more clearly, while the actual now-playing screen remains largely unchanged.
Availability
Because version 7.0 is a beta release, the new design is currently only available to participants in the beta program. Regular users don’t need to take any action; the final update should roll out via the Play Store as usual once the multi-week test phase concludes.
