Opera für Android: Neuer eSIM-Dienst bringt Datenvolumen für Auslandsreisen

Opera for Android: New Built-in eSIM Feature Offers Travel Data

Browser maker Opera is expanding its Android app with an integrated eSIM feature for international travel. The update allows users to book mobile data plans for worldwide roaming directly from within the browser, eliminating the need to install separate third-party apps.

Launch Offer with 3 GB of Free Data

To mark the launch, users receive a complimentary 3 GB mobile data package valid for three days. Activating this trial allowance requires neither payment details nor an email address. The service is available across 47 countries. The validity period starts only once the smartphone connects to a foreign mobile network, allowing travelers to set everything up before departing.

The provided data volume is not restricted to the Opera browser; it is available across the entire operating system and all installed smartphone apps. Where local partner networks permit, high-speed 5G connectivity is supported. Opera has partnered with provider Holiday.com to handle the technical infrastructure and delivery.

Paid Plans and Prerequisites

Users who require additional data once the three-day trial ends or the free allowance is exhausted can purchase paid add-on packages. Opera offers tiers with 3, 5, or 10 GB, each valid for 30 days. Similar to other international roaming plans, such as the Telekom T-Travel eSIM data packages, the service functions solely as a data connection. Traditional voice calls and SMS via a standard phone number are not included, and the user’s primary SIM card remains unaffected.

To use the feature, the following requirements must be met:

  • A smartphone running at least Android 10
  • Built-in eSIM hardware support
  • A carrier-unlocked device (no SIM lock)
  • The latest version of the Opera app for Android

How to Activate the eSIM in the Browser

Setting up the eSIM takes just a few steps through the browser’s profile settings. After opening Opera, users tap the profile icon (located at the bottom or top right, depending on the interface layout) and scroll to the “eSIM” menu entry. From there, they can activate the three-day 3 GB promotion and select their destination country. If a larger or longer-lasting plan is needed right away, payment for the additional options is also processed directly through this menu.
