Firefox 154 Is Here – and Thunderbird Switches to a Fortnightly Cadence

Mozilla has released Firefox 154 – with GeForce NOW support and a customizable app icon. In parallel, the Thunderbird mail client announces it will ship every two weeks, like Firefox, from September.

New in Firefox 154

Firefox now supports the GeForce NOW cloud-gaming service directly in the browser. On Windows, you can also set a custom app icon for Firefox. Some of the additions are Windows-only for now.

Thunderbird speeds up

Mozilla’s Thunderbird mail client adopts the same two-week cadence as Firefox from September, so new features and security fixes reach users sooner. The current version 154 is a stability update: it fixes bugs in upgrades, encryption, crashes and folder compaction – including an issue where drafts were lost when sending an encrypted message failed.

Why it matters

Firefox and Thunderbird are among the best-known open-source applications. A faster release cadence means more timely security updates – an advantage over rarer, larger version jumps.
