Deutsche Telekom has introduced T-Travel, a new service for worldwide mobile internet access. Through the platform, data packages for more than 200 travel destinations can be booked and installed directly on eSIM-compatible smartphones or tablets. The offer is aimed at all travelers: an existing customer relationship with Telekom is not required, as the service operates carrier-independently.
Four Tiers for Over 200 Countries
T-Travel divides its data offerings into four fixed tiers: Lite, Standard, Max, and Unlimited with unthrottled data volume. The booked packages can be downloaded and activated prior to departing on the trip. Depending on the selected plan, validity periods can be set flexibly between one day and 30 days. Included data volume as well as the resulting costs vary depending on the destination and the chosen travel duration.
For a seven-day trip to Turkey, for instance, Telekom charges the following rates:
- Lite (3 GB): 6.10 euros
- Standard (9.5 GB): 11.00 euros
- Max (18.25 GB): 17.25 euros
- Unlimited: 24.45 euros
For travel to the USA and Canada, the packages are tiered differently. There, the Lite tier with 5.5 GB costs 12.00 euros. The Standard package with 18.25 GB comes in at 21.80 euros, while Max with 35.75 GB is priced at 42.80 euros. The unlimited data option, Unlimited, is offered in this region for 53.50 euros.
Booking via App and Management for Travel Companions
Booking and provisioning the eSIM profiles is handled either via the web portal www.t-travel.com or through the dedicated “T-Travel” smartphone app. A convenient feature for families or travel groups is the ability to manage multiple eSIM packages centrally through a single account and assign them to fellow travelers.
For existing Telekom mobile customers, the introduction of T-Travel changes nothing: existing roaming options and the familiar add-on data passes from the Bonn-based corporation remain unchanged and can be used as usual. Those who are already Telekom customers should compare the rates of traditional data passes with the T-Travel tariffs before booking to choose the more cost-effective option for their destination.
