Starlink unveiled its Router 4 on September 9, 2026 – the satellite provider’s first home router built around a Wi-Fi 7 chipset. SpaceX pitches it as a meaningful jump in range, peak speed and the number of devices it can serve at once.
What the Router 4 offers
The new unit runs on the Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) standard and covers up to 3,500 square feet (about 325 square metres), according to Starlink. It can reportedly handle up to 510 connected devices. Connectivity includes two Ethernet ports, a USB-C port and Power-over-Ethernet. Early reports list a 4×4 antenna setup on 2.4 GHz and 4×5 on 5 GHz, plus MU-MIMO and OFDMA.
No 6 GHz band
Notably, the Router 4 sticks to the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands and skips the 6 GHz spectrum that defines most premium Wi-Fi 7 gateways. The omission is unusual, but it fits satellite reality: current dishes top out around 400 Mbps. As a mesh node, Router 4 works alongside Router 2, Router 3 and the Router Mini.
Price and launch still open
SpaceX has not disclosed pricing or a firm ship date, saying only that the device will be “available soon in select areas.” The hardware aligns with Starlink’s roadmap: the company is targeting gigabit speeds via its V3 satellites by 2028.
