The messaging service WhatsApp is expanding its multi-account feature on the iPhone. In a current beta version for iOS, users will soon be able to run up to three separate accounts simultaneously within a single app installation, without having to switch between different apps or log out each time.
Managing Three Phone Numbers Directly in Settings
The new feature was spotted by WABetaInfo in iOS beta version 26.37.10.15, distributed via the TestFlight program. Setting up a third profile is handled directly in WhatsApp’s settings via the “Add account” option. According to reports, this process requires linking an additional, dedicated phone number.
The user interface keeps the button to add more accounts permanently available—even when two phone numbers are already active on the device. Switching between accounts is designed to be seamless and instant during active use. Meta had previously introduced support for a second profile on iOS devices in version 26.22.76.
Strict Separation of Chats, Backups, and Privacy
For users who consolidate personal contacts, work communications, or club activities on a single device, the technical architecture ensures clear boundaries. Each of the up to three profiles operates with a completely independent data structure:
- Chat histories and media: Texts, voice messages, photos, and documents remain isolated within their respective accounts.
- Backups and notifications: Backup copies and notification settings can be configured separately for each account.
- Security features: Privacy and security options, such as App Lock, can also be tailored individually to each profile.
Availability and Outlook for Other Platforms
The expansion to three accounts is currently in internal development and is not yet available to all testers, even within the beta testing program. The company has not yet announced when the feature will be released to all regular users via the App Store. Whether and when an identical expansion to three accounts will arrive on Android devices also remains unclear at this time.
iPhone users do not need to adjust any settings yet, as the rollout is being prepared gradually. Once the update is deployed generally, simply linking the additional phone number in the app’s settings menu will eliminate the need to carry a second phone or rely on separate business apps.
