Kagi’s privacy-focused browser Orion keeps making progress on Linux: the latest beta update brings private windows and link previews. The Flatpak builds are now also available for x86_64 and ARM64.
Orion is neither a Chromium clone nor a Firefox fork: the browser is based on WebKit and uses GTK4, libadwaita and WebKitGTK for its Linux integration. The focus is on privacy – no ads, no telemetry, and Intelligent Tracking Prevention is enabled for all WebKit sessions.
What already works
- Private windows and link previews (new in the latest beta update).
- A working download manager and a content blocker.
- Browsing history and a password-management framework; WebExtension support and a Firefox Sync backend are in the works.
Orion for Linux installs as a Flatpak via Kagi’s own repository (not Flathub), on all major distributions. For anyone looking for an alternative beyond Chromium and Firefox, the WebKit browser is worth a look.
