Pangolin, the open-source reverse proxy from the Fossorial (fosrl) team, has gained a central AI gateway in its 1.22 series. It bundles cloud providers and self-hosted language models behind a single, access-controlled endpoint. The latest patch release, 1.22.2, landed on GitHub on 4 September 2026.
One gateway for cloud and homelab
Pangolin is a self-hosted reverse proxy with identity-based access control that exposes services over WireGuard tunnels without opening any ports. The AI gateway, introduced in version 1.22.0 (27 August 2026), lets operators manage commercial providers and local models side by side. Homelab users can, for example, route a self-hosted model and external APIs through the same secured access layer.
Keys, budgets and logging
The gateway brings capabilities that were previously missing from self-hosted setups:
- identity-based and machine virtual API keys for users and automated systems,
- session logging plus cost, token and usage analytics,
- budget enforcement across roles, providers, models, resources and individual keys.
Private gateway resources require the Badger Traefik plugin 1.6.0 or later and Gerbil 1.5.0, and clients must have been updated after 19 August 2026. The 1.22.1 and 1.22.2 patches then cleared up a YAML error, table filtering issues and reset form values. Downgrades are not supported after an update, so the team recommends backing up configuration data beforehand.
