The self-hosted photo manager Immich has released version 3.1.0. The first feature update after the big jump to 3.0 focuses on convenience and automation improvements, along with another round of bug fixes.
Immich is one of the most popular open alternatives to Google Photos: you keep your pictures and videos on your own server, complete with face recognition, a mobile app and backups. With 3.0, the project made its first major version jump – including non-destructive photo editing in the app and a visual workflow builder.
What’s new in 3.1.0
- EXIF filters for workflows: automations can now be filtered by the EXIF metadata of your shots.
- Server-path filter: the file filter can optionally evaluate the actual path on the server instead of the original file name.
- Undo archive: after archiving, the success notification now offers an “undo” button.
- Upload wakelock: the web app prevents the screen from dimming during active uploads (requires HTTPS).
- OIDC role sync: the OAuth integration syncs admin status on every login and now accepts both single values and lists in the role claim.
There is also a security improvement: when resetting a password via the command line, existing sessions can now be explicitly invalidated. As always, anyone running Immich should back up the database and library before updating.
