A new open-source project called “Nextcloud Native” aims to unite the many Nextcloud services in a single native interface: Files, Photos, Talk, Calendar, Mail and more. The client is developed independently and is explicitly not affiliated with Nextcloud GmbH.
Until now, many users access their Nextcloud through the browser or separate apps. Nextcloud Native instead brings these building blocks together under one roof – with shared navigation and a consistent design. Each area behaves as you would expect: Mail like a mailbox, Deck like a board, Tables like a table, and the photo view like a media library.
Native instead of embedded web pages
Technically, the project relies on the official server APIs and native platform integrations rather than simply embedding web pages. That promises a smoother, more system-native experience. Runnable builds are available for Linux (the primary development platform), Android and Windows; versions for iPhone and iPad are planned but not yet available.
Putting it in context
Important: Nextcloud Native is still in alpha and is therefore meant for trying out rather than for productive daily use. For self-hosters who want a modern, unified client, however, the project is a promising candidate worth keeping an eye on.
