OpenProject 17.7: Open-Source Project Management Gains Resource Planning

The open-source project management software OpenProject has been released in version 17.7. The main new feature is a resource management module that lets teams manage capacity and work allocation directly in OpenProject.

Resource planning on board

The new resource management module makes it possible to plan resources, allocate work and keep an eye on capacity – previously often a break in the workflow. It builds on organizational features such as departments, working hours and user-related attributes.

Self-hosted, full data sovereignty

OpenProject can be self-hosted, offering full data sovereignty – an open alternative to cloud services like Jira that is especially popular in the homelab and privacy-conscious space.

Enterprise add-on

One caveat: the resource module is an Enterprise add-on from the Premium plan onward. The underlying organizational features, however, are available across all OpenProject plans.
