How the download time calculator works
The calculator derives how long a download theoretically takes from file size and bandwidth. The unit matters: internet speed is given in bits per second (Mbit/s), file sizes in bytes (MB, GB) – a factor of 8 sits between them.
- Bandwidth in Mbit/s: A 250 Mbit/s line achieves roughly 31 MByte/s on paper.
- MByte/s: If your tool already shows the speed in megabytes per second, pick this unit directly.
- Realistic value: The +15% surcharge accounts for TCP/IP overhead and typical fluctuations.
For conversion the tool uses decimal units (1 GB = 1,000 MB = 10⁹ bytes), as common with internet and storage providers.
