Google has rolled out a new version of its Chrome web browser for desktop operating systems. The update fixes a total of 42 security vulnerabilities across Windows, macOS, and Linux. Since several of the patched flaws carry a high threat potential, desktop users are advised to apply the update promptly.
Three Critical Vulnerabilities in Focus
With the release to the Stable Channel, Google has upgraded the browser on Windows and macOS to version numbers 153.0.8010.47 and 153.0.8010.48, respectively. For Linux, version 153.0.8010.47 is available.
Of the 42 patched vulnerabilities, the company rates three as critical:
- CVE-2026-91726: An out-of-bounds read error in the WebGL graphics API. Such an issue potentially allows unauthorized reading of sensitive data from system memory.
- CVE-2026-91721: A use-after-free vulnerability in Internals. In this case, the program accesses memory that has already been freed, which attackers could exploit to execute arbitrary code.
- CVE-2026-91749: Another use-after-free vulnerability affecting background processes (Workers).
Additionally, numerous other vulnerabilities rated as “High”—the second-highest severity tier—were resolved. As usual, Google is withholding specific technical details regarding attack vectors until a majority of users have updated to the patched browser version. This prevents cybercriminals from actively exploiting the flaws before mitigations are in place.

Web browsers serve as the primary gateway for internet threats, as they constantly process external code from visited websites. Prompt responses to security vulnerabilities and rigorous browser-side defenses are therefore essential.
How Users Can Update Chrome
Google rolls out desktop updates gradually in waves over several days and weeks. Users who do not wish to wait for the automatic background rollout can trigger the update manually:
- Click the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
- Select the Help menu item.
- Click on About Google Chrome.
Chrome will immediately check for available versions and download the update. To complete the process, a restart of the browser via the displayed button is required.
