Samsung has published the details of its August Security Maintenance Release: a total of 56 vulnerabilities are being fixed on Galaxy smartphones and tablets running Android 14, 15 and 16. Samsung even beat Google to it.
What the update is made of
Of the 56 fixes, 38 come from Google’s August security bulletin – eight of them rated critical and 30 rated high. On top of that come 18 Samsung-specific patches for One UI and the Galaxy software.
Notable fixes
- Clipboard bypass: an authorization flaw in SemClipboardService could let local apps access clipboard contents without the proper permission.
- System apps: fixes for Contacts, Dialer, Messages, Galaxy Themes and AppLock.
- Media codecs: patched vulnerabilities in the VC1 and MPEG4 libraries that allowed out-of-bounds memory access.
The rollout begins in the coming days – first for current flagships such as the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Flip 8 and the S26 series, followed by older models and the A series. Users should install the update as soon as it becomes available.
