Apple has rolled out critical updates for Mac computers. Alongside the newly released major release macOS 27 Golden Gate, macOS Tahoe 26.7 and macOS Sequoia 15.8 address more than 200 security vulnerabilities and improve overall system stability.
Critical Flaws in the Kernel and Interfaces
The security fixes delve deep into the operating system. Among the resolved vulnerabilities are flaws that allowed unauthorized access to kernel and root privileges—the highest administrative permission tiers on the system. Engineers also remediated issues enabling attackers to break out of sandboxes (sandbox escapes) or bypass Apple’s Gatekeeper security checks.
Fixes involving wireless communications demand particular attention: multiple vulnerabilities involved remote code execution (RCE) via Bluetooth. System services such as CUPS (print system) and WebDAV (network file protocol) also received patches. Specifically for macOS Sequoia 15.8, Apple provided an additional fix for the ImageIO graphics framework. Security teams credited with discovering the vulnerabilities include OpenAI Codex Security, NVIDIA AI Red Team, and Anthropic Research.
Maintenance for Older Systems and Farewell to Intel Macs
With macOS Tahoe 26.7 and Sequoia 15.8, the company continues to maintain older hardware generations that cannot or should not be migrated to newer platforms. Both versions forgo new UI features entirely, focusing strictly on bug fixes and security patches. By contrast, the older macOS Sonoma received no updates in this release cycle.
At the same time, the newly launched macOS 27 Golden Gate marks a noticeable turning point in Apple’s platform strategy: this 23rd major release is the first to exclusively support machines powered by Apple Silicon processors. Older models equipped with Intel chips are no longer supported by this generation. Golden Gate includes roughly 206 security fixes and, alongside visual refinements, introduces deeper Siri integration for Apple Intelligence as well as support for the MacBook Neo (2026). In parallel, Apple also issued updates for mobile devices, including the release of iOS 26.7 for iPhones.
Recommendation: Install Updates Promptly
Because the patched vulnerabilities could potentially allow malware injection without user interaction, Mac owners are advised to install the updates immediately. The updates are available in System Settings under General > Software Update.
Depending on the machine and the installed version, the download can be several gigabytes in size. Users should schedule a system restart to complete the installation.
