Apple has released the iOS 26.7 operating system update, patching more than 80 vulnerabilities on iPhones. The update is specifically aimed at users who want to postpone upgrading to the newly available major update, iOS 27, for now, or whose devices are not yet ready for the transition.
Pure Security Update Without New Features
According to the manufacturer, the update carrying build number 23H24 contains exclusively bug fixes and security patches, as reported by Borncity.com. The release does not introduce any new features or UI adjustments. The predecessor to iOS 26.7 was iOS 26.6.2, which had previously resolved an issue affecting downloads over cellular connections.
Users checking for software updates on their smartphone will see iOS 26.7 displayed as the default primary update. Meanwhile, the new iOS 27 remains available alongside it as a separate upgrade option at the bottom of the update menu. Upgrading to iOS 27 at a later date is possible at any time.
Critical Flaws in the Kernel and Bluetooth Patched
In terms of content, iOS 26.7 resolves more than 80 reported security vulnerabilities. 75 of these bugs were also identically patched in iOS 27. Among the most significant fixes are several patches in the operating system core (the kernel), preventing malicious apps from gaining unauthorized root privileges. Additionally, a Bluetooth vulnerability that could have potentially allowed remote attackers to execute arbitrary code was resolved.
Based on current knowledge, none of the patched flaws were actively exploited by cybercriminals prior to release. An interesting detail: for three of the reported vulnerabilities, Apple acknowledged findings uncovered with the help of AI security tools, including Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI Codex Security. The company plans to provide precise CVE identifiers for the individual bugs at a later date.
Additional Updates for Older Platforms
Alongside iOS, Apple continues to maintain other older operating systems in parallel. Released concurrently with iOS 26.7:
- iPadOS 26.7 (Build 23H24) for tablets,
- macOS Tahoe 26.7 (Build 25G229) for Macs,
- macOS Sequoia 15.8 (Build 24H23) for older Mac systems.
These systems similarly focus entirely on stability, bug fixes, and security, running in parallel with the new major releases iOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, and macOS Golden Gate.
What Users Should Do Now
Given the resolved kernel and Bluetooth vulnerabilities, iPhone users should install the update promptly. Those who deliberately choose not to upgrade to iOS 27 yet—for example, to wait out initial teething issues of the new OS generation—can safely opt for iOS 26.7. The update is available directly in Settings under General > Software Update.
