The tool is intended to alleviate discomfort caused by motion sickness when users look at their smartphones while traveling in cars or trains. The rollout begins on compatible devices as part of the September 2026 Google System Updates.<\/p>\n<h2>Visual cues to combat motion sickness<\/h2>\n<p>Motion sickness\u2014medically known as kinetosis\u2014is primarily triggered in the brain by a sensory conflict: while the vestibular system in the inner ear detects acceleration and turns, the eyes remain focused on a static screen that appears motionless. gyroscope sensors. As soon as the vehicle brakes, accelerates, or turns, Motion Assist displays small animated bubbles along the screen edges that move in sync with physical forces. With this feature, Google follows a concept similar to Apple&#8217;s previously introduced &#8220;Vehicle Motion Cues.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Requirements and availability<\/h2>\n<p>Specific system requirements apply. Motion Assist requires at least Android 17 alongside the updated Google Play services 26.37. The initial rollout targets Google Pixel devices. An expansion to Samsung smartphones is planned for a later date following the rollout of Android 17.<\/p>\n<p>The feature can be enabled via system settings by navigating to <code>Google\/Profile<\/code> &gt; <code>All services<\/code> &gt; <code>Personal &amp; device safety<\/code>, or through the system settings search bar. For quick access while traveling, adding a tile to the Quick Settings menu is recommended. The system can also be configured to automatically detect vehicle motion and display the animations on its own. Users can further customize the appearance, including the shape, size, color, and opacity of the bubbles.<\/p>\n<h2>Additional updates in Play Services 26.37<\/h2>\n<p>Alongside Motion Assist, the Google Play services update includes several bug fixes. Among other improvements, real-time data syncing between smartwatches and phones has been stabilized. The &#8220;Driving Do Not Disturb&#8221; setting can now also be found more easily within system menus.<\/p>\n<p>In parallel, version 53.3 of the Google Play Store has been released.
