In build version <code>ZP11.260821.010<\/code>, featuring the September 2026 security patch, Google has integrated a new toggle: Under <em>Settings &gt; Display &amp; touch &gt; Lock screen<\/em>, Once enabled, the Quick Settings shade can still be opened from the lock screen, but tapping security-sensitive tiles will strictly require authentication via fingerprint or PIN. According to the system description, this affects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wi-Fi<\/li>\n<li>Bluetooth<\/li>\n<li>Mobile data<\/li>\n<li>Airplane mode<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Non-critical convenience features such as the flashlight, auto-rotate, or dark theme will remain operable without unlocking.<\/p>\n\n<h2>Harder Times for Phone Thieves<\/h2>\n<p>The update addresses a widespread real-world problem: When a smartphone is stolen, perpetrators often switch on Airplane Mode or disable mobile data as their first step. This disconnects the handset from the cellular network, preventing owners from locating it via Google&#8217;s tracking network or remotely locking it. With the new lock in place, the smartphone remains connected to the network as long as the battery lasts or until the SIM card is physically removed.<\/p>\n\n<h2>Currently Limited to Test Devices<\/h2>\n<p>The feature is currently available exclusively in Android&#8217;s experimental Canary channel. Compatible devices include Pixel smartphones ranging from the Pixel 6a and Pixel 7 series to the Pixel 8, Pixel 9, and Pixel 10 lineups, alongside the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. The older Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are no longer supported by Google in this channel; support for Pixel 11 devices is slated to arrive in an upcoming Canary release.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Because Canary builds are explicitly intended for developers and experimental in nature, users should avoid installing them on their daily-driver devices.
