Despite a turbulent final development week, the stable version arrived on schedule, without the occasionally needed eighth week of testing. class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Btrfs now enables large folios by default and gains experimental huge-folio support up to 2 MB. EXT4 overhauls its fast-commit mechanism and reduces lock contention. On the networking side, Intel&#8217;s USB4STREAM protocol and extended io_uring capabilities stand out. On the hardware front, AMDGPU HDMI 2.1 FRL, optimizations for Intel&#8217;s Arc B390 graphics and the first foundation for Apple M3 devices are added.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What it means for users and distributions<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Referring to the &#8220;new normal&#8221; driven by AI-assisted development, Torvalds noted the release once again turned out larger than he had hoped. For end users, the new features will land in upcoming distributions: Linux 7.2 will power Ubuntu 26.10, among others.
